Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center in Sacramento, CA, requiring at least 2 years of ED experience and an active CA RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital Emergency Department with 30 beds and 1 trauma bay with 2 beds
• Level II Trauma Center serving as the primary trauma center for the area
• Patient population includes standard ED patients, trauma cases, and psych holds with security support for agitated patients
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Telemetry monitoring required, including EKG strip reading and interpretation
• Ventilator management required
• Charting via Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, starting at 6:45 AM report at the bedside
• Every other weekend required
• Travelers are first to float; floating may occur mid-shift to other Sacramento-area facilities (rare but possible)
• Self-scheduling used with manager balancing; schedules posted 4 weeks in advance with remote access available
• Hospitalist and Intensivist available in-house; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• No IV Team on site; Nurse Aides available based on census and staffing

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
• Level II Trauma experience is not required
• Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ability to manage patients on ventilators
• A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked (must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire)

Additional Information

• Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (Basic) exam before an offer can be confirmed; a previously passed Relias Basic Dysrhythmia exam taken within the last 12 months may be accepted
• On the first day of orientation, RNs are given a pass/fail skills test covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Floor orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor
• Holidays are rotated with core staff
• Scrub color is navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy
• Candidates who have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Block scheduling is generally not available; extra shifts and trades with other staff are available through the self-scheduling system
