Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU travel assignment at a trauma-designated, teaching children's hospital, requiring 2 years of PICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Position is within a Nursing Float Pool, with a primary assignment in the Pediatric ICU/PCICU at a 300-licensed-bed, trauma-designated, academic teaching hospital
- PICU unit consists of 19–23 beds with an average daily census of 15–18 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1
- Patient population includes respiratory, congenital heart disease, hematology/oncology, post-op, and trauma cases
- EMR is Epic; experience preferred
- Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Med Sonic monitors
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage required as needed by the unit
- Floating is required between PICU/PCICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics across two campuses (Oak Lawn and Park Ridge)
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required; NRP highly preferred
- Minimum 2 years of PICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

- Unit culture is described as teamwork-oriented and friendly
- Departmental support includes CNAs, a receptionist, charge nurse, in-house phlebotomy, IV team, resource nurse, and tele tech; RT, hospitalist, and intensivist are available 24/7
- Orientation includes a general nursing education orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation in the PICU
- Clinical interview with the unit manager is required
- Navy scrubs required; free parking is available
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius restrictions apply
