Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3/4 NICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity neonatal ICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital setting
- Patient population includes neonates with complex respiratory (RDS, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, HLHS, PPHN), neurological (IVH, HIE, seizures), and GI/metabolic diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, PIV ultrasound, Tecotherm, and MOMs breast milk scanning system
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (badge in 6:45 AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) per 6-week scheduling cycle
- No on-call requirements; if the NICU cannot utilize travelers, floating to similar units may occur
- Floating may be required to Neonatal PCU, General Peds, Pediatric CVICU, or PICU (as a helping hand unless prior experience exists in those populations)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube and epidural management, sedation/analgesic drip management, CRRT experience, Foley insertion, G-tube/J-tube management, oral/nasal suctioning, aseptic and sterile technique, and bedside procedures with providers
- Experience with Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), EVDs, HOFV management, and baby-side ECMO preferred (manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills)
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill neonates across a wide range of diagnoses and acuity levels
- Robust unit support includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PIVC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, unit-based educators, and clinical supervisors available 24/7
- Orientation includes NEO training plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is completed every 6 weeks based on unit needs; the Clinical Supervisor will provide required dates after the core team schedule is finalized
- Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled, including the day of and the day before or after, every other holiday during the contract
- RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs should be aware that a contract extension may be required to accommodate
- First-time travelers may be considered with manager approval depending on current staffing levels
- Candidates must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
- Scrub color is navy; long-sleeve underlayers must be solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops preferred; no tight scrubs or other organization-branded attire
- 'Bare Below the Elbow' policy is enforced in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (rings or otherwise), or artificial nails permitted
- Free parking is available
