Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a large academic medical center in New Mexico, requiring NRP certification and experience in a high-volume L&D unit.
Details
- Night shift position, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, with 4x12-hour shifts available
- 36- or 48-hour contract options available
- 13-week contract with a minimum length of 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions
- Level I Trauma, acute care, teaching hospital with a children's hospital
- Labor and Delivery unit with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- High-volume facility with over 300 births per month and 12+ bed L&D unit (400+ bed facility)
- Procedures performed include cerclage, version, C-section, PPTL, AROM, medically assisted deliveries, C-hyst, neonatal palliative care, nitrous oxide, massive transfusion protocol, and malignant hyperthermia management
- External and internal fetal monitoring utilized
- Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
- Floating required to antepartum and postpartum units as needed
- On-call required: 12 hours per 4-week period on a 4x12 contract, or 24 hours per 4-week period on a 3x12 contract
- No guaranteed block scheduling
- Parking is provided at no cost
- Purple scrubs provided by the facility
Requirements
- Active RN license for New Mexico (NM) or Compact — NM license may be pending at time of consideration
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP — NRP must be in hand prior to start date; RQI certifications are not accepted
- AWHONN Advanced or Intermediate certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of L&D nursing experience required
- Experience in a large L&D unit (12+ beds) and large facility (400+ beds) required
- Strong experience with postpartum care (3s/4s ratings), baby nurse duties, and meconium deliveries required
- Circulate for C-section and fetal heart monitoring (FHM) skills required
- Community hospital experience required; Level I Trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Non-local driver's license required on file — candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include labor and delivery management, obstetrical triage, fetal monitoring, postpartum care, baby nurse duties, breastfeeding/lactation support, wound assessment, and circulating for C-sections
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark with this health system must complete a 6-month break before returning
- Former permanent staff must have a 12-month separation before being considered
- RTO exceeding 7 days requires approval; no RTO during the first 7 days or last day of the contract
- Holiday coverage is expected (1 holiday preferred)
- Weekend scheduling for travelers is not fixed — the facility cannot guarantee specific days off on weekends
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start date
- COVID vaccination is optional; however, the facility is required to report vaccine status numbers
