Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Neuro Telemetry unit at a Level I Trauma Center in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience, Level I Trauma background, and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, Level I Trauma Center
• 32-bed Neuro Telemetry unit (Neuro Tele 2)
• Patient population includes CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, encephalopathy, ESRD, trached patients, brain tumors, and patients with psych comorbidities
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
• Nurse aides available (4 on days, 3 on nights) for blood sugars, vital signs, and straight cath
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
• Holidays worked into the permanent unit rotation
• Float requirements include cardiac tele, tele overflow in ICU, and med/surg
• Charting via Cerner (WOWs used on unit)
• Central telemetry monitoring; EKG interpretation required
• Titrated drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem
• SWAT RN available for difficult IV access
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
• Fast-paced unit with an average LOS of 4–5 days and high patient turnover
• Bedside report

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Level I Trauma experience required
• Ability to interpret EKGs and perform telemetry monitoring
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of valid driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
• Must have own personal vehicle
• Natural hair color required; no facial piercings permitted
• Men must be clean-shaven (fit test requirement)

Additional Information

• Neuro experience is a plus, though not explicitly required
• 2-day floor-specific orientation provided
• All RNs must complete a SIMs Lab skills assessment covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — this is a pass/fail evaluation with strict sterile field standards; nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
• A pass/fail sterile technique exam is administered on the first day of orientation
• Additional orientation components include lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only)
• Charge nurses carry a light patient assignment
• Scrub color is steel gray
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or per diem/PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
• First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible — experienced travelers are expected given the Level I Trauma and skills assessment requirements
