Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

- Position is based in a 20-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital with a nationally ranked congenital cardiology program (#7 per USNWR)
- Patient population is pediatric (ages 0–18) with very high acuity, including congenital heart defects post-surgery, pre- and post-transplant management, s/p cath lab, and patients requiring ventricular assistive devices, ECMO, Impella, Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), and dialysis
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
- Rotating shifts covering both days and nights: 0645–1845 and 1845–0645, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend or fewer (Fri/Sat/Sun)
- On-call responsibilities are required
- Floating required to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a comparable-acuity facility required
- Most recent experience must be within the last year
- Experience with fresh open-heart post-op patients and transplant patients required
- Proficiency with specialty devices including Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, and ECMO required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Ability to float to PICU (competency discussed during interview)
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Unit is divided into two mirrored sides of 10 beds each, with a centralized nurses' station and the most critical patients positioned nearest to the station
- Support staff includes 1 healthcare tech per day (for runner, bathing, and nursing support duties), a unit secretary every shift, a free-floating charge nurse, a free-floating resource nurse, in-house phlebotomy (rarely utilized due to central line prevalence), an IV/VAT team, and 24/7 coverage from RT, cardiologist, and intensivist
- Monitoring is centralized and at bedside; no telemetry monitoring tech
- Orientation includes NEO and 2 days of departmental training
- Schedule is planned on a 6-week cycle; RTO requires manager approval
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays; unit standard is every other holiday
- Required scrub color: navy
