Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVPICU) position at a Magnet-designated academic children's hospital, requiring strong Pediatric ICU and cardiovascular experience with Epic proficiency.

- Work setting is a Magnet-designated, comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical center housing a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU
- Unit is the Cardiovascular Pediatric ICU (CVPICU)
- Patient population consists of pediatric patients with complex cardiovascular and surgical needs, including congenital heart disease and post-cardiac surgery care
- Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- Day and night shifts available: 7:00am–7:30pm or 7:00pm–7:30am (12-hour shifts), assigned based on unit needs
- Schedule runs Monday through Friday with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage is required
- Float assignments within the facility are required as needed
- Epic EMR experience is required
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be in hand)
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience with at least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience
- Strong Pediatric ICU background required; candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered
- Level II trauma experience required; Level I and academic teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with advanced respiratory management including ventilators, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
- Experience with arterial lines, central lines, CRRT, IV vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, and hemodynamic monitoring
- Pediatric dosage calculation skills required
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- First-time travelers may be considered with 3 or more years of experience in a high-acuity hospital setting, particularly with strong CV experience
- A telemetry exam (both adult and pediatric components) must be passed prior to starting the assignment — candidates have up to two attempts; a third attempt requires submission of a cardiac interpretation review course certificate; failure after three attempts results in assignment cancellation
- Adult telemetry exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole), no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions, and an overall passing score of 80% or higher
- Pediatric telemetry exam requires identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia, with a passing score of 80% or higher
- Daily responsibilities include care of critically ill pediatric cardiovascular patients, including post-cardiac surgery and congenital heart disease management, hemodynamic monitoring, procedural sedation, and management of complex lines and drips
- Parking onsite requires a permit through UW Transportation; alternative transportation options include bus, park-and-ride, and private parking
