Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a Level III NICU position requiring at least 2 years of NICU experience and the ability to titrate drips, working night shifts on a 13-week contract.

Details

• Level III NICU in an acute care hospital setting
• 22-bed open concept unit with intermediate and more critical patients on separate sides and an RN station centered in a fishbowl layout
• Patient population includes RDS, SGA, prematurity, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, IUGR, and infants as young as 23 weeks gestation; no surgical or G-tube placement cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3, up to 1:4 for feeder-grower or stable patients
• NICU RNs attend deliveries under 36 weeks gestation to assist with APGAR scoring
• Common drips include antibiotics, multivitamin, iron, surfactant, TPN, and epi; titration required
• RT equipment includes bubble CPAP and ventilators
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend requirement
• 2 holidays per year required
• First to float; floating to the newborn nursery and pediatrics unit as appropriate
• No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required; Level III or IV experience preferred
• Must be able to independently titrate drips
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

• Neonatologist coverage during the day; NNP overnight and for delivery attendance
• Charge nurses are present each shift and take patient assignments; charge nurses also attend deliveries
• No dedicated nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
• Hospital-provided scrubs
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• RTO requests of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
