Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Step Down/Telemetry position requiring 2 years of experience and Level I Trauma Center background at a large academic medical center.

Details

  • Work in the Step Down unit of a Level I Trauma Center, short term acute care hospital
  • MS/Telemetry patient population requiring cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management
  • Average patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00-7:30
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license, CT or Compact accepted (must be active prior to start date; pending licenses accepted)
  • Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (1.5 years considered with Level I Trauma or travel experience)
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team protocols
  • Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
  • IV therapy and central/peripheral/PICC line management experience
  • 1 professional reference required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a busy Step Down unit at a large academic medical center
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center with over 1,000 staffed beds
  • Scrub color required is royal blue
  • Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
  • COVID vaccine and booster required with only religious or medical exemptions accepted
  • Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the hospital to be eligible unless local rate is accepted
  • Returning staff must have been separated from permanent employment for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler
  • Requests for time off greater than 7 days require additional approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Pros

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair

Very large unit so hard to get to know everyone/find people to help sometimes
