Description
American Traveler is hiring a Step Down RN for a Level II Trauma Center requiring compact/CT RN license, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and at least 2 years of stepdown experience.
Details
- Work in the Step Down/PCU unit of a short-term acute care hospital with 426 staffed beds
- Level II Trauma Center within the Yale New Haven Health System
- Patient population includes neurological, cardiac, and respiratory cases requiring telemetry monitoring
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (1900-0730)
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating required as needed for the department
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active RN license (CT or Compact) required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS required
- PCCN or CCRN certification preferred
- CPI certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown/PCU nursing experience required
- Prior charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and rapid response/code team involvement
- Experience with arterial line, central line, PICC line, and peripheral line management
- Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Knowledge of pacemaker management and post-cardiac procedure care (TAVR, post-angiogram, post-MI)
- One professional reference required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to stepdown-level patients with neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal conditions
- Participate in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response protocols
- Manage IV therapy, blood product administration, and various line care procedures
- Support patients with substance withdrawal, seizure disorders, and traumatic brain injuries
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the hospital to be eligible for travel rate
- Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
- COVID vaccine and booster required, with religious or medical exemptions only
- Previous facility staff must have been separated from employment for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler
- Free parking available on-site
- Facility is part of the Yale New Haven Health System
