Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring 2+ years of experience and Meditech proficiency, with night shift and floating responsibilities.
Details
- Work on a 22-bed Medical Surgical unit within a 294-bed Joint Commission accredited hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population with common diagnoses including surgical, PD exchanges, placement, and psych cases
- Patient ratios of 6:1 up to 7:1
- Utilizes telemetry equipment and MEDITECH EHR system
- 12-hour night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- 36 guaranteed weekly hours
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required as a 2nd nurse to Telemetry and ED units
- 13-week assignment length
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Associate's degree in Nursing required
- Meditech experience preferred
- Med Surg experience preferred
- Social Security number and date of birth required for consideration
- AHA certifications required
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit including surgical, PD exchange, placement, and psychiatric cases
- Located in Wilson, NC, approximately 45 miles east of Raleigh and within an hour of Duke, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, and East Carolina University
- Bi-weekly orientation with start dates available on 8/17 or 8/24
- Scrub color is flexible with no restrictions
- Candidates must live 60 miles or greater from the facility to be considered for the travel rate
- Local candidates within 60 miles are considered for the local rate
- Candidates cannot have worked as permanent staff at any LifePoint facility within the last 12 months
- Candidates cannot be employed elsewhere full time

Doctors and most of staff are nice. Surgeries are not hard.
Cons
No staff so a lot of call. You will be on call within your first week or two, even if you don't know how to do anything. Unorganized. The director and supervisor don't know anything about the OR nor are they helpful. New staff are not properly trained. Everything falls on the OR nurse to do. They preop in house patients getting surgery. A couple of OR staff are bullies and lazy, they all think they are the boss. They tell the charge nurse what they are going to do and not going to do. Its like high school all over. Had to leave out of fear for my license.
