Description
American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a fast-paced Medsurg/Cardiac Observation unit requiring the ability to read cardiac strips and experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone.
Details
- Work on a 21-bed Medsurg and Cardiac Observation unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Average patient ratio of 1:6
- Patient population includes pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, arrhythmias, and general MedSurg diagnoses
- Nurse Aide ratio typically 1:10, sometimes up to 1:14-15, supporting with EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, ADLs, and vitals
- Tele monitor techs are located on a separate floor, but RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips using a real-time unit monitor
- Only set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone drips are used, with occasional Bumex and Lasix; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Respiratory support limited to BiPAP and CPAP for supportive therapy only (no High Flow)
- Charge Nurse is present on the unit 24/7 and may take patients depending on shift
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with clock-in no earlier than 1853
- Weekend requirement is every-other-weekend, working Friday/Saturday/Sunday night shifts
- Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
- Occasional call or standby possible during low census periods
- Travelers are typically first to float and may be floated to other units, including ICU and Stepdown, within their skillset
- Unit is fast-paced, with up to 6 discharges and 6+ admissions per day
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone required
- Experience with TR Bands is a plus
- BSN not required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a busy cardiac and medsurg observation unit, including monitoring, medication administration, and coordination with support staff
- Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1 day of shadowing with a preceptor before working independently
- Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be true scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
- All time off requests must be submitted upfront and included in the contract; requests made afterward require facility approval
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, or more than 100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital, to qualify as a traveler
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to a cumulative one-year assignment period within WVU Medicine, followed by a required 2-year break
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
