Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring 2 years of experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Work in the Telemetry (PCU/Tele) unit of an acute care hospital
- Unit includes 20 to 22 beds with a mix of private and semi-private rooms
- Patient population includes elevated troponin, active chest pain, pre/post cath patients, post-STEMI and NSTEMI cases, pacers, peritoneal dialysis, and occasional post-surgical or oncology patients
- Patient ratio is 1:5 for both day and night shifts
- Uses Phillips Cardiac Monitors with a central monitoring station
- Cardiac telemetry data integrates directly into EPIC
- Nurses review telemetry strips every 4 hours and document rhythm review in the patient chart
- Manages drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin, and Nitro per protocol
- Respiratory therapy manages Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow ventilation support
- 4x12-hour night shifts per week, 7pm to 7:30am
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Friday/Saturday nights)
- Rotating holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Rarely required to float, but may float to ICU overflow, Tele, or Ortho/Med-Surg
- Opportunities available for Charge Nurse and Precepting roles
- Hospitalist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy support available in-house 24/7
- No dedicated IV team on the unit
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Acute care telemetry experience required
- EPIC EMR experience
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
- COVID-19 vaccination required, with medical or religious exemption requests requiring approval through facility review process
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to telemetry-acuity cardiac and medical patients, including strip review and documentation
- Participate in a care team supported by Charge Nurses, PCTs, monitor techs, in-house Hospitalists, RT, and Pharmacy
- Floor-specific orientation of 1-2 shifts depending on experience level
- Navy blue scrub color required with navy or white jacket and white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required and tattoos must be covered
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible as a traveler
- Previous perm employees or travelers who completed a full year at this health system must wait 2 years before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively without taking a required 2-year break
