Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Clinic position requiring oncology experience and a Michigan RN license.

Details

  • Outpatient clinic setting specializing in hematology/oncology, attached to a hospital for emergency service support
  • Adult oncology and hematology patient population
  • Infusion area with 16 chairs and 6 bedrooms, supported by an onsite chemotherapy/immunotherapy mixing pharmacy
  • Staffing includes five nurses and a charge nurse, with three medical oncologists supported by separate RN/MA teams
  • Utilizes IV pumps, reclining chemotherapy infusion chairs, Hoyer lifts for non-ambulatory patients, and mobile computer carts
  • Patient ratio of 1:7 during a shift
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • No weekend, call, or floating requirements

Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience required
  • Chemotherapy experience preferred
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with any charting system required
  • Skilled in starting IVs, venipuncture, and phlebotomy
  • Skilled in medication administration including intradermal, intramuscular, intravenous, and subcutaneous routes
  • Experience with blood product administration, oxygen administration, and Foley catheter insertion/management
  • Proficient in patient assessment, vital signs, pain assessment, and interpretation of lab results
  • Proof of flu vaccination required for consideration
  • Supervisor-level references required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in an oncology/hematology infusion setting, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration
  • Perform patient teaching, telephone triage, and follow-up calls regarding treatment and symptom management
  • Support services available include social workers, dieticians, nurse navigators, survivor nurses, specialty pharmacy liaisons, and pastoral care
  • Responsible for chart preparation, scheduling, medication reconciliation, and medication refill coordination
  • Handle specimen collection and labeling, biohazard waste disposal, and universal precautions
  • Travelers are given priority for floating assignments when needed
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • RTO limited to no more than 10 days during the assignment
  • Previous internal travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
