Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Clinical Decision/PCU unit requiring 2+ years of MedSurg, Telemetry, or Step-Down experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a 40-bed Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit (PCU) within a hospital setting
• Unit focuses on ED decompression and enhanced throughput, receiving admitted patients from the ED for admission assessment, medication reconciliation, and initiation of acute care orders
• Care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
• Patient ratios of 1:5 Step-Down/1:6 MedSurg (1:5 if combined) for both day and night shifts
• Unit staffing includes a charge nurse and 1-2 CNAs based on volume
• Uses Baxter IV pumps and Cerner documentation system
• Shift schedule runs 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Scheduled to work every other weekend with holiday coverage assistance required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Expected to float to other units within skill set as needed
• Minimal bedside procedures performed due to unit environment

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) level experience preferred
• Charge nurse experience or willingness to take on charge duties appreciated
• Positive, team-focused attitude suited for a fast-paced, quick-turnover environment
• No gaps in work history equaling 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include completing admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders for patients admitted from the ED
• Unit's primary goal is reducing overall length of stay and enhancing the patient/family experience through a continually refined admissions process
• Additional cross-unit opportunities may be available in the CMU Telemetry Unit or as an ED Transport Nurse
• Dress code requires navy blue/white uniform or a combination of the two colors; no t-shirts, with appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater as needed
• Many travelers on this unit have requested extensions, with some staying for several years
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted for this role
