Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring telemetry strip reading skills and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 21-bed Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes CHF, COPD, DM, HTN, post-op ortho, and lap chole cases
• Maintains a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, which may occasionally increase to 1:6
• Frequent telemetry patients, with nurses responsible for reading their own strips
• Utilizes CPAP respiratory equipment
• Charge nurse and house supervisor do not take patient assignments but assist with admissions and discharges
• Team nursing model supported by Patient Care Techs at a 1:5 ratio (occasionally 1:7-8)
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• 12-hour day shifts with weekends as needed
• No floating, on-call, or standby requirements
• No holiday coverage required
• Block scheduling allowed as available but not guaranteed

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Dysrhythmia reading skills required
• EPIC EMR experience helpful, with training available if needed
• Unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit with a diverse case mix
• Any color scrubs permitted
• First day includes meeting with HR and EPIC training if needed
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel pay rate, as local candidates are not accepted
• Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Travelers who previously worked at this facility as permanent staff are not eligible to return in a travel role
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers are limited to one year of cumulative work within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
