Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg/Infectious Disease unit requiring prior travel and EPIC experience for a night shift assignment.
Details
- Acute care setting on a 18-bed Med/Surg/Infectious Disease unit with all private rooms
- Patient population includes Infectious Disease cases, isolation precautions, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6, or 1:4 for COVID patients, typically staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift
- Unit is supported by 2 CNAs per shift and a Charge Nurse 24/7
- No cardiac drip titration required, though RNs manage Heparin and other typical Med/Surg IV medications and antibiotics
- No ventilator management on this unit, though patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow managed by Respiratory Therapy
- Remote telemetry monitoring is managed from a separate location; RNs are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement with Friday/Saturday/Sunday night shifts
- Holiday coverage may be required based on unit staffing needs
- Travelers are the first to float and may be floated to any Med/Surg unit, or to Telemetry within their skillset
- May be called off for low census depending on contract terms
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Strong knowledge of Med/Surg nursing, Infectious Disease, and isolation precautions required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg and Infectious Disease patients requiring isolation precautions
- Unit orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor before working independently
- Scrub color is Royal Blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be actual scrub jackets in Royal Blue with no hoodies or sweat-jackets permitted
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible as a traveler
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively before requiring a 2-year break
- All candidates interview directly with the hiring manager
