Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Step-Down (PCU) position requiring ACLS certification and prior cardiac/telemetry experience.

Details

  • Work in the 3 West Cardiac Step-Down unit of a hospital setting
  • 30-bed unit with a patient ratio of 5-6:1
  • Unit staffed with a unit clerk on days, 2-3 PCTs per shift, a nursing supervisor, and hospitalists
  • Uses Welch Allyn vitals monitors, Novameter glucose testing, Philips Telemetry and MP2 monitors
  • Documentation completed in Meditech HCA version
  • Medications administered via WOW carts with med drawers and PyxisES dispensing system
  • Day shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Scheduling requires working every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
  • Floating may be required to other Med/Surg areas including general M/S, Ortho, PCU, and M/S surgical with oncology
  • Performs procedures including chest tube management, wound vac management, and ad lib EKGs

Requirements

  • Active RN license (TN or compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Cardiac knowledge preferred
  • Familiarity with Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips
  • No gaps in work history equaling 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

  • Provide cardiac step-down nursing care including telemetry monitoring, documentation of rhythm strips, and application of telemetry each shift
  • Perform bedside rounding and hourly rounding addressing the 5 P's
  • Report known patient needs to PCTs at the beginning and throughout each shift
  • Adhere to a No Pass Zone policy for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms
  • Dress code for RNs is navy scrubs; CNAs/PCTs wear ceil blue scrub sets with an optional jacket, plain t-shirts allowed underneath with no graphics
  • No artificial or gel nails or gel nail polish permitted
  • Unit recognized for Daisy and Bee Awards along with iHEAL nominations
  • Charge nurses on staff have significant tenure, including up to 39 years on day shift and 15+ years on night shift
  • Unit operates under a shared governance model
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
