Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift Trauma ICU position requiring ICP monitoring and ventric experience along with an active CA RN license.

Details

• Level 2 Trauma ICU/Trauma ICU unit in an acute care hospital setting
• 30-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2, with 90% of assignments at 1:2
• Patient population includes trauma, neuro-strokes, head injuries, ventriculostomies, and ICP monitoring cases
• Post-TPA patient experience accepted in lieu of ICP/ventric experience
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation
• RT is assigned to the ICU 24/7 with Hamilton ventilators available
• GE telemetry monitors used; unit secretary runs strips but RN must interpret them
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7; charge nurse does not take patient assignments
• 1 unit tech supports all 30 beds, primarily performing secretarial duties
• Intensivist coverage in house 24/7
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (6:45p-7:15a) and every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling available but subject to manager review; schedules released about 6 weeks in advance
• Travelers are the first to be moved for scheduling needs and the first to float
• Floating required to PCU, CICU, tele, or medsurg units; CICU assignments will be ICU-level patients, not open heart
• No on-call or standby requirements for travelers
• 13-week assignment with 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Active BLS and ACLS certification required
• PALS preferred; required after 6 months if assignment extends beyond that timeframe
• 2-3 years of ICU specialty experience required
• Trauma experience required
• ICP monitoring and ventriculostomy experience required, or post-TPA patient experience as an alternative
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia test onsite on day one (Pass/Fail)
• Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one of orientation
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• COVID vaccine required

• Must be comfortable asking questions and requesting help when needed
• Must work well with others in a collaborative, high-intensity unit
• Hospital offers a robust interventional radiology program
• Navy scrub color required
• One day of unit-specific orientation provided, with additional orientation available if needed
• 12 hours of general orientation included
• Holiday RTO requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed
• Traveler-friendly facility that welcomes first-time travelers
• Candidates who failed the Dysrhythmia or sterile technique test twice are ineligible for 6 months at this health system
• Candidates previously employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by this health system within the past year are not eligible; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
