Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Float Pool position on night shift, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience.

Details

• Float pool position covering multiple Med/Surg and specialty units within the facility
• Units include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
• Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neuro, oncology, orthopedic, and general medical cases
• Patient ratios generally range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
• Shift is 12-hour nights, 7:00 pm start, 36 hours per week
• Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task with a limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• EMR system is Cerner, preferred but not required
• Utilizes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
• Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling, using Smart Square

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg experience required
• EPIC or Cerner EMR experience required
• Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, foley care, PEG/NGT management, and central line care depending on unit assignment
• Telemetry interpretation skills required due to unit monitoring protocols

Additional Information

• Facility is a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and designation as a Primary Stroke Center
• Employees will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
• New or returning travelers (out 1+ years) receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit training
• Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at the facility
• Former staff must wait at least 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler
• Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though not guaranteed in advance
• Facility maintains blackout dates for RTO throughout 2026, including major holidays and select weekends
• Up to 7 days of time off may be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval
• Scrubs of any color are permitted
• Parking is available in the deck, levels 2 through 4 only

• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted for this position
