Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Telemetry position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Details
- Med/Surg-Telemetry unit (Visual Monitor Unit) caring for medical patients with secondary psychiatric diagnoses
- 14-bed unit with 1:4 patient ratios
- Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
- Every 3rd weekend required
- Holiday coverage follows permanent staff rotation
- Floating required to ED psych holds and possibly to MedSurg floors
- Telemetry monitoring used; no ventilator patients on unit
- Charge nurse carries a patient assignment
- Behavioral health techs assist with patient care; security provides video monitoring
- SWAT RN available for IV access; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
- Psych MD present on unit
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (18+ months may be considered)
- Level 1 trauma experience required (Level 2 trauma experience may be considered)
- MedSurg/Telemetry experience required; psychiatric experience preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with up to 2 attempts allowed
- Must pass a Day 1 sterile technique exam covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for respirator fit testing
- Must provide own vehicle
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
Additional Information
- Care for medical patients with secondary psychiatric diagnoses, including confusion, dementia, and low cognitive ability
- Average patient length of stay is 4 days
- Physical restraints are rare; chemical restraints may be used, with all patients video monitored by security
- Navy scrubs required, along with a personal panic button
- 2-shift unit-specific orientation provided
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility per driver's license verification
- Auto offer applies only if candidate has 7 days of PTO or less; additional holiday PTO requires unit manager approval
- Candidates previously employed directly (full time, part time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year are not eligible; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
