Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- Float pool covers inpatient units including ICU, Step-down, and Medical/Surgical based on competency
- Patient ratios vary by unit: Med/Surg 1:6, Step-down 1:4/5, ICU 1:2/3
- Cares for cardiac, ortho/neuro, surgical, and medical patients depending on unit assignment
- Utilizes Epic EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, scheduled as 7am-7:30pm or 7pm-7:30am
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required if needed
- No call requirement, though standby may be required if census is low
- Daily unit assignments are obtained by calling the staffing office
- Tele monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs; CVU staff read their own strips
- RT equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP may be used on any unit, with vents in ICU and chronic trach vents possible in Step-down
- RNs titrate drips in Step-down areas only, including Heparin, Cardizem, nitro, cardene, insulin, dobutamine, dopamine, activase, esmolol, lidocaine, lobatelol, primacore, procanimide, agrostat, and verapamil
- Charge nurse coverage provided Monday-Friday day shift with 24/7 house supervisor support
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3-4 shifts
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Med/Surg background required; Step-down experience preferred
- BSN not required
- Driver's license with current permanent address required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple inpatient units as part of a float pool team
- Work alongside a team of 9 float pool nurses and a robust PCT float pool
- Nurse aides are present on the unit
- Scrub color required: Royal Blue
- Interviews are conducted directly with the unit manager
- First-time travelers may be considered
- Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers cannot work within WVU facilities for longer than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Local candidates are not accepted; radius requirement is 50 miles for this facility
- Extension requests cannot be made until a traveler is within 45 days of their current end date
