Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with a CO or compact license and 2+ years of MS-Tele experience for a night shift assignment requiring floating across multiple Colorado Springs area facilities.

Details

  • Acute care setting within a MS/Tele Float Pool covering multiple units including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appy, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 based on acuity
  • Night shift schedule, 7pm-7am, 12-hour shifts
  • Required to work 6-9 weekend shifts within a 6 week schedule
  • May be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
  • Rare call or standby requirement for low census situations
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Required to float within Zone 1 including Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
  • May float into any acuity level including ICU (low acuity holds with appropriate skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
  • No home base facility for this float pool position
  • Schedules released 4-6 weeks in advance, following either single-facility or Just-In-Time facility assignment format
  • RT equipment used including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • RNs required to titrate Heparin drips

Requirements

  • Active CO or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA)
  • Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele experience required
  • Prior neuro experience preferred
  • Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (float zone center)
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple med-surg and telemetry units as part of a float pool team
  • Designated charge nurse on each unit typically does not take a patient assignment unless necessary, though night shift charge nurses more commonly carry a small patient load
  • Nurse aides are present on units
  • Travelers are responsible for securing housing that accommodates floating throughout the full float zone
  • First float assignment will be communicated on or before the Monday start date
  • All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
  • Facilities in this region may require passing sterile technique testing during orientation, depending on assignment location
  • Local candidates may be considered depending on facility
