Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro Telemetry RN for a night shift acute care position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and an active AZ or Compact RN license.

Details

• Neuro Telemetry unit (5NNB/7NNB) within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital
• 32-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Common diagnoses include CVA, TBI, spinal surgery, encephalopathy, ESRD, brain tumor, trach patients, and psych issues
• Central telemetry monitoring requiring EKG interpretation skills
• No ventilators managed on this unit
• Charge nurse takes a light patient assignment
• Nurse aides available on days and nights for basic care, vitals, and straight catheterization
• Charting completed using Cerner on WOWs
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
• 4 total weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday coverage based on unit needs
• 24/7 in-house respiratory therapy and central pharmacy support
• SWAT RN team available for difficult IV access
• Floating required, primarily to other MS/Tele units and possibly other regional campuses
• 2-day floor-specific orientation provided
• Average length of stay is 4-5 days in this fast-paced, high-turnover unit
• Bedside shift report practiced

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 18+ months of recent RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required; Level 2 trauma experience will be considered
• Neuro nursing experience highly preferred
• Must be able to titrate Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and insulin drips
• Must be competent in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes using sterile technique
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to final acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
• Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique skills exam on Day 1 of orientation
• Must have a valid driver's license

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a medically complex neuro telemetry population
• Perform frequent titration of cardiac and insulin drips
• Complete SIMs Lab competency testing for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes prior to floor assignment
• Additional education-based training provided for lifts, restraints, and wound care
• Scrub color requirement: steel gray
• Must maintain natural hair color and no facial piercings; male candidates must be clean shaven for respirator fit testing
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license address
• Auto-offer available for candidates requesting 7 or fewer PTO days; holiday time off requires unit manager approval
