Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 2 years of recent telemetry experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit treating intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow (TURPs, lap chole, lap appy, lap hernia, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, wound care)
• Fast-paced unit supporting patient throughput from the ED and OR
• Patient ratio of 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
• Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week schedule (mix of Fri/Sat/Sun)
• Holiday shifts and charge RN duties assigned as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active RN license - Missouri or compact license required, Kansas license also required due to potential floating
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1-2 years of telemetry experience required, with 2 years of recent in-specialty experience preferred (within the last 12 months, no employment gaps greater than 90 days)
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Prior charge RN experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and feeding tube care
• Competency in continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Proficient in IV therapy including port access, central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care and management
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs
• Knowledge of heparin protocols and PCA administration
• Experience with CVA patient care
• Skilled in oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face mask, portable tank)
• Proficient in isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
• Preferred skills include insulin drip titration, renal failure care, ortho trauma, total joint replacement, surgical drain management, and tracheostomy care
• Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a Progressive Care Unit setting including cardiac monitoring, wound care, and IV therapy
• Participate in rapid response/code team activations as needed
• 5-time Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital with 456 staffed beds
• Navy scrub color required

• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted
• Maximum of 7 days RTO, which must be finalized at time of consideration
• First-time travelers not accepted for this role

• Previous BJC/Saint Luke's employees must have a 3-month break in service if tenure was under 18 months, or wait 1 year if previously a permanent employee
