Description

American Traveler is hiring an Operating Room RN for a Level I trauma acute care hospital requiring CNOR certification and extensive multi-specialty surgical case experience.

Details

• Operating Room unit with 23 rooms in an acute care hospital setting
• Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM
• Weekend work required
• On-call requirement of approximately 1 shift per week
• Floating required within skill set to hospital or nearby affiliate facilities, though rarely occurs
• Block scheduling is not accommodated
• Cerner charting system, experience preferred
• Covers all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license in hand or in application process required
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required
• BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
• AHA or Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
• Level I trauma center experience required
• General OR and Trauma surgical experience required
• Required case experience across multiple specialties including General Surgery (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple), Neurology (cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion), Orthopedics (arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, open/closed fracture reduction), Urology (cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy), Trauma (amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, MVA), and Bariatric laparoscopic-assisted cases
• Required Plastic Surgery experience with Free Flap - Microvascular procedures
• Required Transplant experience with organ donation cases
• Emergency management skills required including code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocols, and malignant hyperthermia response
• Required equipment experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
• Professional skills required including blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (time out) procedures, and urinary bladder catheterization
• Travel RN experience required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

• Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds
• Scrubs provided for this role
• Parking permit required at no cost; form completed during orientation
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager
• Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation day with required modules due by 4:00 PM CST
• Preferred experience in teaching hospital settings
• Preferred skills include gynecological procedures, robotics (Da Vinci Xi, Mazor Robot), total joint replacement, ortho/spine cases, and pediatric ENT procedures such as tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy
