Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN to join a hospital's nursing float pool, requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Float pool position covering all ICUs, PCU/ACC/CCUs, ED holding, and med surg units
- 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
- Patient population includes COVID, neuro, trauma, medical, and surgical cases
- Care for patients with sepsis, pneumonia, DKA, DTs, multi-system failure, spinal injuries, GSW, MVA, strokes, TBI, and post-surgical patients
- CVICU patients include post-op CABG, esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, thoracic and vascular surgeries, and post-arrest cases
- Not expected to care for fresh CABG/TAVR, EVDs, post-TPA patients, or patients on ECMO, IABP, Impella, or hypothermia protocol
- ICU ratio is 1:2; PCU/ACC/CCU ratio is 1:4; ER holding ratios based on level of care
- Uses Epic charting system
- Schedule set in 3-week blocks, provided 7-10 days in advance
- Every other weekend required, with rare back-to-back weekends possible
- No self-scheduling and no guaranteed patterned schedule
- May float to a nearby hospital approximately 2.5 miles away, with advance notice when needed
Requirements
- Active WA state or compact RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Required skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and BiPAP management, invasive line management, ostomy care, general drains, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and IV medication titration
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must pass required telemetry competency exam prior to start
Additional Information
- Support available from charge nurse, hospitalist, respiratory therapist, and intensivist 24/7; cardiologist on call 24/7 for CVICU, CCU, and cardiac short stay units
- Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation, 1 day of unit orientation (12 hours), and 1 additional 12-hour day on like units
- Daily responsibilities include completing whiteboards, hourly rounding documentation, and bedside report
- Two-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics or benzodiazepines
- Pain documentation required before and after administering pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
- Scrubs of any professional color are acceptable
- Free parking available in designated areas
- Time off requests beyond 5 days require manager approval
- First-time travelers with strong ICU and float pool experience will be considered
