Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring WV or compact RN license and NIHSS certification.

Details

• 52-bed Med/Surg unit with all private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient ratios typically 1:6-7 for both day and night shifts, with CNA support at 1:10-12
• Common diagnoses include ortho and neuro post-ops (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), general post-ops (gallbladder, mastectomy, sleeve gastrectomy), and medical diagnoses such as COPD, CP, pneumonia, and cellulitis
• Hemodialysis performed on the unit; peritoneal dialysis experience highly preferred
• Remote telemetry monitoring available as needed on a different unit; RNs not required to read strips but may do so if experienced
• Manages drips including Heparin, rare non-continuous Lasix, PCAs with MSO4, and occasional Ativan gtt; no cardiac gtts or insulin drips
• Supports intermittent Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow ventilation
• 12-hour night shifts (1845-0715), 36 hours per week guaranteed
• Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends out of a 6-week schedule), Fri/Sat nights
• Uses Sunrise EMR; Allscripts also referenced as charting system
• IV Team and PICC team available 24/7; RNs assess IV sites but do not start IVs
• In-house Hospitalist, Intensivist, RT, and Pharmacy support available 24/7
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg units, Med/Surg/Oncology, or IMC for overflow (no gtts)

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• ACLS certification considered a plus
• Acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed prior to consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a Med/Surg population including post-surgical and medical patients
• Charge Nurse carries a full patient assignment with support from a Clinical Assistant
• Floor-specific orientation includes general hospital orientation plus two full shifts on the unit
• Scrub requirement for RNs is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets (no hoodies)
• Holiday coverage required as part of the rotation schedule
• Schedules are built six weeks at a time; staff may request up to 6 days off per 6-week schedule
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel assignment (no local travelers)
• Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Former WVU Medicine travelers must have a 2-year break before reapplying, and cumulative work within WVU facilities is capped at 1 year before requiring a 2-year break
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
