Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg/Tele experience and Level 1 trauma center experience.

Details

• Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting with a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool assignment
• Supports multiple medical-surgical, telemetry, neuro, and observation units with typical ratios of 1:3-6
• Float coverage includes Tower 5-8 (med/surg, oncology, lung transplant, cardiac surgery, trauma, organ transplant), Neuro units 5N/6N/7NNB (stroke, neuro, epilepsy, ENT, migraines), 6HLT/7HLT (cardiac procedures and observation), Neuro Rehab, Surgical Landing Zone, ED Holds, and Zone 4
• May also float to Westgate and Laveen med-surg telemetry units with 1:4-5 ratios
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour day or night shifts (7AM-7:30PM or 7PM-7:30AM)
• Schedule set 4 weeks in advance and may change with 2 weeks notice based on hospital needs
• 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 4-week period
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• No on-call requirement, though standby status during low census requires a 30-minute response time
• Floating is mandatory across assigned units with no option to decline

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• NIHSS certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience required
• Level 1 trauma center experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred due to patient acuity and complexity
• Must pass a Basic Dysrhythmia exam with an 80% score within 2 attempts prior to contract confirmation
• Must pass a Day 1 SIMs Lab competency check for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, maintaining sterile field technique
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Perform bedside reporting and complete a two-person skin assessment within the first 4 hours of each shift
• Report to the charge RN station on each unit to receive assignment sheets and update department codes with each clocking
• Expected to be on the unit by shift start time to participate in shift huddle
• Orientation consists of 2 shifts (1 on the unit, 1 in ED Holds), with a third shift added only if needed
• Educational review provided for lifts, restraints, and wound care due to facility-specific equipment and policies
• Failing the Dysrhythmia exam or SIMs Lab test on the second attempt results in ineligibility for 6 months within the Arizona and Sacramento regions
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by any facility within the health system in the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
