Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2+ years of MICU experience, teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience, and a PA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of a Trauma Level I teaching hospital
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- 13-week contract with day shift (3x12, 6:45a-7:15p), rotating to approximately 12 night shifts (6:45p-7:15a) per contract
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday)
- No call requirements
- One winter holiday (Eve and Day) coverage required
- Floating required to ICU, intermediate, and telemetry units
- Epic charting system used
- Block scheduling may be considered
Requirements
- Active RN license (PA or Compact) required
- BSN required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of MICU experience required
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, and blood product administration
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
- Experience managing vasoactive and cardiac drips, continuous IV sedation, and dysrhythmia management
- Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and renal replacement therapies preferred
- Valid references and copies of certifications required for consideration
- PA fingerprints and required labs must be completed shortly after signing
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to critically ill medical ICU patients requiring advanced monitoring and multisystem support
- Navy blue scrubs required per dress code
- Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius, though local candidates are accepted at a different rate
- Pass/fail clinical exam required prior to clearance, with a maximum of three attempts allowed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- RTO must be submitted at time of application; RTO requests after submission will not be accepted

Some of the nurses in the MICU are some of the best people I have ever met. Very high acuity patients but I learned a lot. Amazing teamwork and camaraderie
Cons
The facility is literally falling apart and staffing is terrible sometimes. Management is not as great and supportive as it used to be. Patient population can be difficult to work with (lots of ETOH, withdrawal, ODs, etc)
