Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring a CA RN license, 5+ years of combined NICU/PICU/pediatric experience, and float coverage across the Peds Critical Care service line.

Details

• NICU serves as the home unit within a Level III, 22-bed NICU caring for preterm infants as young as 22 weeks gestation, respiratory distress, hyperbilirubinemia, IDM/poor feeders, failure to thrive, and hypoglycemia
• Emphasis on quiet, developmental support care for each infant
• Float requirement to PICU (8-bed Level II unit treating trauma, respiratory diagnoses, ingestions, and select surgical cases) and to Pediatrics (24-bed general med/surg unit with embedded Eating Disorder Stabilization and long-term EEG programs)
• Night shift schedule consisting of 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:00
• Weekend commitment of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule, including major holiday blocks
• Typical patient ratio of 1:2
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active California RN license required in hand at time of consideration; pending or temporary licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
• RNC-NIC and CCRN certifications preferred
• Minimum 5 years of experience required, combining NICU, PICU, and/or pediatric experience, with a strong NICU background
• Epic charting experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Experience with mechanical ventilation (2-3 times weekly) required for NICU IV and Small Baby Unit roles
• Experience with ELBW population (22-24 weeks gestation) required for Small Baby Unit roles
• Experience floating to Pediatrics or PICU required
• Two supervisor-level or above references required, from the applicable unit and dated within 1 year of start date or from most recent employer
• Prior travel assignment experience required

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing support across NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics as part of a float pool model
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
• Up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, varying by specialty
• Maximum RTO of 5 days, with no holiday RTO accepted
• No RTO permitted within the first week of the assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Former staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before reapplying
• Clinicians on a do-not-return list from Rady Children's are not eligible for consideration; returning CHOC travelers who were previously cancelled require leadership review before rehire
