Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ED Holds/Tele position requiring strong cardiac telemetry skills and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the ED Holds/Tele unit of an acute care hospital with Level 3 trauma designation
• Care for ED holds waiting placement on a unit, primarily MS/Tele patients
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a) with ability to self-schedule, subject to change
• 4 weekend shifts required within a 4-week schedule
• Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
• No call or standby requirement
• First to float; floats to med/surg/tele/overflow units and other ED units within the health system
• May assist with ED patients including vitals, IV starts, and medication administration, but will not serve as primary RN for ED assignments

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong cardiac telemetry background preferred, with ability to titrate and decrease cardiac drips per physician orders (Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone)
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently, as no monitor tech is available
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start (2 attempts maximum)
• Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique skills lab on day one of orientation
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry-focused nursing care to patients awaiting placement from the ED
• Work under the ED charge nurse with ED PCTs available for support
• Complete 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation to Med/Surg/Tele at the primary campus
• Navy scrub color required
• Failure of the dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test results in a 6-month do-not-use status within the region
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by the health system within the past year, though PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility per state residency requirements
• MS/Tele travelers do not need prior travel nursing experience
