Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN with at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience for a night-shift position in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- Med-Surg and Med-Tele satellite unit focused on decompressing the ED and other hospital specialty areas
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls, MVC injuries, PE, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA
- RN to patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:8 depending on unit and acuity
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice, including to other regional facilities as needed
- EMR: Epic; IV Pump: Alaris; Med dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Phillips
- Telemetry monitoring performed by unit nurses with no dedicated tele tech
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skilled in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion, and PCA pump use
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Work within a Level I Trauma, teaching hospital setting with designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center recognition
- Collaborate with a full support team including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurses, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the assignment
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel placement
- Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
- First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
- Unit culture described as close-knit and family-oriented
