Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity mixed ICU requiring prior travel experience and TNCC certification.
Details
- 39-bed mixed ICU encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU divided into pods
- Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma populations
- Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 depending on acuity
- 12-hour day shifts on a 48-hour per week schedule
- Weekend rotation targeted at every other weekend, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating is uncommon but may occur to adult Medsurg/Tele floors at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
- Uses Epic for charting along with Alaris (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required (TNCC must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills required
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Cardiac ICU experience preferred, including 24-48 hour post-op CABG/TAVR care
Additional Information
- Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and on-site intensivists and APPs
- ICU RNs place all midlines; peripheral blood draws are handled by phlebotomy
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Orientation includes general hospital orientation plus one 12-hour and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking provided
- No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
- Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must be arranged to accommodate a full 13-week contract
- Must have at least one prior travel assignment; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system
- Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
