Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a complex, mixed-unit critical care position requiring a compact or SD RN license and prior travel experience.
Details
- Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU pods
- Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
- Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 depending on acuity
- 12-hour day shifts on a 48-hour per week schedule
- Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating uncommon but possible to adult floors including Medsurg/Tele at 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
- Would not float to CVICU unless experienced in that specialty
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris (transitioning to Baxter) pumps, and Omnicell
Requirements
- Active RN license (South Dakota Board of Nursing or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work well in a fast-paced team setting required
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24-48 hrs post-op) preferred but not required
- Must have at least one prior travel assignment
Additional Information
- Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, charge nurses, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, and onsite intensivists/APPs
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines
- Orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation with iLearns, and floor shifts
- May be expected to precept students
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
- Time off requests up to 7 days considered, with contract extension required to meet full 13-week term
- Must reside at least 100 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a travel employee
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
