Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN requiring at least one prior travel assignment, strong critical care skills, and a 48-hour/week contract commitment.
Details
- 39-bed mixed ICU unit covering MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU patients, divided into pods
- Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 based on acuity
- Complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
- Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24-48 hours post-op
- 12-hour night shifts on a 48-hour/week contract
- Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating uncommon but may occur to adult floors including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio if overstaffed
- Would not float to CVICU unless experienced in that specialty
- Epic EMR required; Alaris pumps in use, transitioning to Baxter pumps by October
- Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, and onsite intensivists/APPs
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must obtain prior to arrival if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment required
- Must be comfortable with a 48-hour/week contract commitment
Additional Information
- Provide direct care to complex, critically ill ICU patients across multiple specialties
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided onsite
- No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
- Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved but must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract
- Travelers must have at least one prior travel assignment; first-time travelers not accepted
- Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers must live 100 miles away from any facility within the health system
- Facility is known for being traveler friendly with high renewal rates
