Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 48-hour/week contract requiring at least one prior travel assignment and a SD or compact RN license.

Details

  • 39-bed mixed ICU encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU divided into pods
  • Patients will not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
  • Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
  • Cardiac experience with CABG/TAVR 24-48 hrs post op preferred but not required
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 depending on acuity
  • 12-hour day shifts totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating uncommon unless overstaffed, could float to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele at 1:4 ratio
  • ICU RNs qualified to float to ED; PCU RNs qualified to float to ICU
  • Epic EMR used, required for ICU
  • Baxter IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used
  • Unit supported by CNAs, a mobility float aide, charge nurses, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, resource nurses as staffing allows, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and onsite intensivists and APPs

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (required prior to arrival)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced team setting
  • Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex ICU patients across medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Orientation includes hospital and department orientation, iLearns modules, and floor shadow shifts
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
  • Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must extend the contract to a full 13 weeks
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available on site
  • Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Permanent staff must wait one year before returning in a travel role
  • Facility is known to be traveler friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
