Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 48-hour/week night shift contract requiring at least one prior travel assignment and 2+ years of ICU experience.

Details

  • 39-bed mixed ICU covering MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
  • Complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
  • Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24-48 hrs post op
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts on a 48 hr/week contract, non-negotiable for this unit
  • Every other weekend rotation, not guaranteed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating uncommon unless overstaffed, may float to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele at 1:4 ratio
  • Charting systems include Epic, Alaris (transitioning to Baxter pumps), and Omnicell
  • Unit supported by 1-2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, 24/7 RT, and onsite intensivists/APPs
  • Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required (TNCC must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment required
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Must be willing and comfortable working a 48 hr/week contract

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex ICU patients across medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations
  • Hospital orientation includes one 12-hour and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
  • Time off requests up to 7 days considered, but contract length must extend to accommodate a full 13-week assignment
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • Must live at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system to be eligible as a traveler
  • Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Previous permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler

Pros

Traveller Friendly staff are easy to work with. Patient ratios pretty good. More to do in Rapid City and around the area.

Cons

Ok to request sched but mostly based on the unit need.
