Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Nursing Float Pool role at a Level III Trauma Center, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and WA or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Float pool position primarily assigned to the ED Holding unit with potential float assignments to ICU, PCU, CCU, Medical, Surgical, and Rehab units within scope of practice
- 12-hour night shift schedule, 36 hours per week
- Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds
- ED Holding unit cares for mixed diagnosis patients with ratios of 1:2 for ICU patients, 1:4 for PCU patients, and 1:5 for MS patients
- Unit is fast-paced, requiring flexibility and resourcefulness
- May be assigned ACLS Transport duties, transporting patients throughout the hospital including ED, CT, MRI, Nuc Med, PACU, and Cath Lab
- Night shift ACLS RN assists ED Holding with breaks and medication administration during slower transport periods after 2300
- ICU patient ratio 1:2 based on acuity
- PCU and CCU ratio 1:4 depending on acuity
- Medical and Surgical ratio 1:5
- Rehab uses a 2:8 team model (RN, LPN, Tech)
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, complicated post-op patients, CVAs, post-arrest, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, oncology, ortho, and rehab/neuro cases
- Partial shift floating required within scope of practice
- EPIC EMR required
- Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system used
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certification required; ACLS required for ICU and PCU assignments
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required (or 2 years PCU experience for PCU/ED hold assignments, or 2 years acute care for MS assignments)
- Skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, invasive line management, ostomy and drain care, and trach care
- PCU skills include chest tube, lumbar drain, and IV med titration experience (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, heparin)
- Med-Surg skills include IV therapy, PCA management, chest tubes, drains, ostomies, and IV antibiotics
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required
- Traveler Telemetry Competency required

- Supported by respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage 24/7
- Tech support ratios vary by unit: ICU 1:14, PCU 1:10, MS 1:8-10
- Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 1 day on the assigned unit
- Respiratory therapy provides just-in-time training for vent and trach care on Rehab units
- Scrubs of any color accepted except camouflage and must appear professional
- Phones are not permitted on the unit and scheduled breaks are required
