Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a complex, mixed-unit ICU requiring prior travel experience and a 48-hour weekly contract commitment.
Details
- 39-bed mixed ICU encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU divided into pods
- Floating into CVICU pod only for those with relevant experience
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
- Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post cardiac cath, and multi-system trauma
- Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24-48 hours post-op
- RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled for 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation targeted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to adult units including Medsurg/Tele (1:4 ratio) possible if unit is overstaffed
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
- 24/7 respiratory therapy support with CNAs, charge nurses, and resource nurses on the unit
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or compact) currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be willing to obtain TNCC prior to arrival if not already certified)
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments, strongly preferred
- Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience and significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered pending management approval
- Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work well in a team-based, fast-paced environment
- Must be comfortable with a 48-hour per week contract commitment
Additional Information
- Provide direct critical care to complex ICU patients across medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations
- Support provided by 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge nurses overseeing all ICUs, and resource nurses as staffing allows
- Unit supported by 3 intensivists during day shifts and 2 intensivists plus an APP overnight
- Orientation includes hospital and department orientation, iLearns completion, two 12-hour shifts of floor orientation, and an additional independent 12-hour shift for 48-hour contract travelers
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available
- No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
- Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Permanent staff must wait one year before returning in a travel role
- Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
