About
Located less than two hours from Los Angeles, Palm Springs is an oasis in the desert with a palm-lined skyline and a backdrop of red-hued mountains. In the 1930s, it became the top desert getaway for Hollywood stars. By the late '40s, they were arriving in droves, with everyone from Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra to Bing Crosby and Marilyn Monroe enjoying the town's many delights. Today Palm Springs may best be known as the world's golf capital, with more than 130 courses in the area. However, many locals and visitors prefer hiking scenic trails in the San Jacinto Mountains, soaking in healing mineral waters, exploring cutting-edge museums, browsing world-class galleries, shopping high-end designer boutiques and dining in famous chef-led restaurants. Simply lounging around an outdoor pool with a drink in hand is another favorite pursuit.
