Description

Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry (MS/Tele) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Float Requirements: Must float within scope to MS, ICU, and ED units as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Locals within 75 miles are not accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Ability to interpret dysrhythmias
  • Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams

Certifications (As Required by Unit)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units and OR)

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (Surface AB positive titer or completed series)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • References: 2 within last 3 years (required for travel agency candidates)
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams as required by specialty
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
  • No on-call requirement
  • No holiday requests off allowed; maximum 7 days off requested at a time
  • Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed

Patient Care Environment

  • Patient diagnoses primarily cardiac and stroke
  • Use of hoyer lifts and other special equipment
  • PCTs (Patient Care Technicians) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an experienced MS/Telemetry RN comfortable with acute care cardiac and stroke patients, working night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
