Registered Nurse (RN) – General Surgery

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings (12:30 PM – 11:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Hours per Day: 10 hours

Job Description

• Work in the Operating Room (OR) for General Surgery (Major) cases.
• Average of 20-40 general surgery cases per day.
• Common procedures include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic colon surgery, laparoscopic appendectomy, cystoscopy, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, and urology surgeries.
• Collaborate with surgical technologists and charge nurses who assist with cases.
• Use EPIC OP TIME electronic medical record system.
• Scrubbing is not required for RNs.
• Floating to other surgery teams or Sterile Processing Department (SPD) may be required if qualified.
• Hospital-provided scrubs are worn.
• Orientation includes up to one week of unit-specific training plus hospital-wide orientation.
• Call requirements: one call shift per week with a 30-minute response time.
• Call hours vary between 3:30 PM and 7:00 AM depending on the shift.
• Weekend call is every other or every third weekend, involving full weekend hours.
• Sleep policy: If working more than 4 hours after 11:00 PM, 8 hours off are provided from clock-out time.
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling is based on department needs.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that the application process has been initiated.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in general surgery, gynecology, urology, and ENT.
• EPIC experience is required.
• BLS (AHA) certification.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen (drug-free campus policy).
• Prefer candidates with recent experience (within last 2 years) in similar-sized facilities and OR settings.

Additional Information

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours.
• Call off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty.
• Shift scheduling: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM or 12:30 PM – 11:00 PM to meet contracted hours.

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong general surgery and specialty experience who are comfortable working evening shifts with call responsibilities.
