Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Thornton, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Number of Beds: 24
  • Staffing (Day Shift): Charge nurse, 4-5 RNs, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Staffing (Night Shift): Charge nurse, 4-5 RNs, 2 PCTs
  • Patient Ratio: 5:1
  • Equipment: Telemetry monitoring, post-op monitoring
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech / CPN

Job Description

  • Care for post-operative patients including surgical, orthopedic (spine, joint), and cardiac cath lab patients
  • Patient population includes elective ortho, spine, gynecological surgeries, post PCI, pacemaker, ablation, cardioversion, re-vascularization, stroke, CIWA, chest pain, renal failure, respiratory failure
  • Manage cardiac drips with set rates (non-titrating except heparin)
  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art unit with ADA/Bari rooms and Hoyer lifts (x2)
  • Unit culture emphasizes excellent teamwork, collaboration, and a friendly, outgoing personality fit
  • Modified self-scheduling process with schedules posted 3 weeks in advance

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Current certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • HHCCA - De-escalation Skills in Healthcare Setting
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cardiac experience
  • Prior experience with Meditech EMR system
