Description
Registered Nurse - Cardiology (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Shift: 9 AM – 5 PM, no weekends
Schedule: 3x12 shifts, weekends and holidays required
Unit: Cardiology, 32 beds
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to cardiology patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Support patient education, discharge planning, and promote health and disease prevention.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans and health promotion.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perception of care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Promote cost-effective patient care.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain compliance with documentation standards.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Demonstrate professional communication and ethical decision-making.
- Encourage lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.
- Participate in specialty councils, committees, and unit initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
- Minimum 2 years of cardiology experience, including experience within the last year.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- IV skills required.
Contract Length
Approximately 13 weeks (89 days).
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is required for travel positions but not for per diem roles.
- Patient-to-nurse ratios will vary.
