Job Opportunity: Director of Nursing

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Director of Nursing oversees nursing operations and overall performance of their department(s). This role models core values such as putting patients first, pursuing excellence, integrity, inclusion, continuous learning, and teamwork.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Accountable for clinical care and departmental performance metrics.
  • Supports strategic initiatives by establishing quality initiatives that promote safety, civility, and reduce bias in patient care.
  • Develops and updates performance improvement tools, productivity reports, fiscal status, and quality statistics.
  • Resolves patient complaints timely and in accordance with policy.
  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Manages department budget and resources, understanding financial processes.
  • Serves as a role model for professional practice and aligns behaviors with organizational values.
  • Acts as a representative for nursing staff, collaborating with senior leadership and healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • Serves as a resource for physicians and staff.
  • Fosters an inclusive workforce valuing individual differences.
  • Manages team selection, retention, and performance through coaching, feedback, training, and recognition.
  • Develops others’ abilities to contribute to organizational goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience in nursing.
  • Knowledge of academic medical center structures, service-line structures, institutional governance, and decision-making hierarchies.
  • Skills in planning, coordinating, and measuring departmental activities.
  • Demonstrated business acumen including experience with performance improvement tools, metrics-driven decision making, budgeting, report writing, and problem solving.
  • Ability to leverage resources and technology to manage multiple priorities and meet organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of industry standards to support strategic decisions, problem solving, and risk calculation.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to mediate effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Awareness of unconscious and systemic bias in care delivery and business operations.
  • Proven ability to foster cooperation and harmonious relations.
  • Integrity and trustworthiness in leadership and staff interactions.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills for individuals and cross-functional teams, including project management support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity, and diplomacy.
