Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Position is for an LDRP nurse working between Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Mother-Baby units.
  • Must have experience in both L&D and Mother-Baby care.
  • Required to float between these units.
  • Must be comfortable working with the prison population.
  • Orientation includes two 8-hour shifts followed by two 12-hour shifts with the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association, valid throughout assignment.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association, valid throughout assignment.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), valid throughout assignment.
    • AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - Advanced or Intermediate level required, valid throughout assignment.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, valid throughout assignment.
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), valid throughout assignment.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
  • Social Security Number or Card for system access.
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) updated annually or within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug test including marijuana, completed within 12 months and annually thereafter.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, completed after signing and updated annually.
  • Fit mask test (3M 1860s, 1860, or 1870+), updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (one adult dose)
    • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 6 months or chest X-ray if prior positive, updated annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (1 vaccine for Rubella if titer low)
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required year-round.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions considered.

Orientation and Training

  • Orientation guidebook and travel packet must be reviewed prior to start; candidates must bring copies to orientation.
  • Completion of assigned LMS education modules 5 days prior to start (4-8 hours depending on unit).
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and EKG/medication tests as applicable.
  • Pass/fail testing required for telemetry, med-surg, ICU, ER, forensics, PACU, and endoscopy units with specific passing scores; two attempts allowed before contract termination.
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and safety manual required before start.

Additional Notes

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the system over 1 year; internal evaluations if over 2 years.
  • Candidates must bring a passport-style photo (white background, no hats/masks/sunglasses) for badge issuance.
  • Parking permit application required prior to start.
  • Medical and religious exemption forms for COVID-19 and flu vaccines must be submitted and approved; approval is not guaranteed.

This position offers a specialized nursing role in Labor and Delivery with a focus on flexibility between L&D and Mother-Baby units, requiring strong clinical skills, certifications, and compliance with rigorous health and safety standards.
