Registered Nurse – Psychiatric (Float Psych RN)

Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (3pm–11:30pm), includes every other weekend and every other holiday
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (8-hour shifts)

Job Summary

Provide direct and indirect nursing care to adult and adolescent inpatient psychiatric patients within a behavioral health setting. Participate actively as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team to develop, implement, and document individualized treatment plans. Maintain a safe therapeutic environment grounded in trauma-informed recovery principles.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care consistent with psychiatric and substance use treatment modalities.
• Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed.
• Take charge responsibilities during shifts (charge duties included in rate, no multiplier).
• Collaborate with the treatment team to support patient-centered care.
• Maintain professional boundaries while developing therapeutic relationships.
• Utilize crisis management, de-escalation, and restraint reduction techniques.
• Use electronic medical records for documentation.
• Manage stressful situations calmly and professionally.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience within the last year.
• Experience working with adult and adolescent patients in an inpatient setting.
• Experience in charge nurse roles.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience with substance use inpatient treatment.
• Training or experience in restraint reduction, de-escalation, and crisis intervention.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, time management, delegation, coaching, and team-building skills.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and typing skills.
