Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Responsible for the education of health care providers and community advocates and the coordination of the provision of patient contact, and patient healthcare to the healthcare team. Serve as an advocate for quality patient care in Trauma patients. Serve as a representative of Barnes Jewish Hospital as a Level I trauma center educational resource in trauma care to the BJC enterprise. Provides education and trauma oversight to the region and implements their trauma educational programs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Acts as course director for (ATLS) Advanced Trauma Life Support (physician credentialing) course as required by American College of Surgeons Level I trauma center verification. Acts as course director for TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for trauma nurse certification. Acts as Course Coordinator for Trauma Nurse Specialist Course (TNS). Provides course direction for additional nationally recognized certification courses. Procures all pre-course materials, ensures all pre-course and post-course paperwork is complete and accurate. Follows structured guidelines. Manages courses to defined course budget. Logs expenses and is accountable to Trauma Program Manager for expenses. Follows up on all deficiencies. Provides required course audits. Recruits physician and nursing instructors and lay volunteers for courses. Accountable for all course outcomes.
  • Researches current best practices, designs course and provides instruction to inpatient care providers on methods of caring for trauma and surgical patients. Acts as an expert in trauma care for employees across the enterprise by advising and participating in orientation and skills training activities on inpatient and outpatient units. Teaches TNCC, ATCN and Trauma Nurse Specialist Course. Collaborates with university partners in organizing CME opportunities. Collects and maintains CME/CE record for trauma services to meet ACS standards.
  • Leads collaborative meetings between Trauma/ACCS services and inpatient units and/or Emergency Department. Prepares agenda, communicates with physicians and other members to insure all items are addressed during regularly scheduled sessions. Follows up on outstanding items.
  • Collaborates with Injury Prevention to assess need, develop course content and performs community education through teaching nationally recognized injury prevention courses. Supports Trauma/ACCS services in meeting ACS requirements for EMS outreach through the provision of continuing education.
  • Facilitates the growth of the Trauma/ACCS services through active participation in research and participation in regional and national events. Develops and implements program initiatives with the collaboration of house-wide partners to improve the care of Trauma/ACCS patients. Monitors data to report outcomes for presentation. Represents Trauma Services as Education Specialist in State, Local and National course Presentations.
