# Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse, Medical-Surgical/Step-Down Unit – North Carolina**Start Date:** September 21, 2026 **Location:** Asheville, North Carolina **Compensation:** Details provided to qualified applicants **Schedule:** Every other weekend required, no call, assist with holiday coverage, floating to other units within skill set as needed**Highlights:** - Fast-paced 40-bed Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit focused on ED decompression and enhanced patient throughput- Patient ratios of 1:5 (Step-Down/combined) to 1:6 (Med-Surg) with goal of free charge nurse and CNA support- Diverse patient population with wide variety of diagnoses requiring well-rounded clinical assessment skills- Cerner documentation system and Baxter IV pumps- Additional opportunities available in Telemetry Monitoring Unit and ED Transport roles- Many travel nurses request extensions and remain with the unit for multiple years**Requirements:** - Minimum 2 years recent Medical-Surgical, remote Telemetry, and Step-Down (PCU) experience preferred- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required- Positive attitude with strong focus on teamwork and collaboration- Ability to complete admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiate acute care orders efficiently- Charge Nurse experience or willingness to serve in charge capacity appreciated**Why It's a Great Opportunity:** This unit prioritizes patient safety and exceptional care delivery in a dynamic environment designed to reduce length of stay and enhance the patient experience.
